2012 Arizona State JOAD Outdoor Championships

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 7:40 AM | Anonymous

Record temperatures over 100 degrees greeted the largest field of JOAD Archers ever in the 2012 Arizona State JOAD Outdoor Archery Championships, sponsored by Arizona Archery Enterprises (AAE). 51 JOAD Archers from 7 Arizona Clubs and one California club came together at the Paseo Vista Archery Range, April 21 & 22 in Chandler, AZ.  Tournament format was 144 arrows -single distance, shot over two days and a “Team Round” for all archers. The format is the same one scheduled to be used at the Easton National JOAD Championships, Hamilton Ohio in June.

Day one started at 6:30 am for field set-up with a large field crew from the host club, Paseo Vista Archery Club. Check-in and equipment inspection began at 8:00. All Archers received a gift bag from the Tournament Sponsor, Arizona Archery Enterprises (AAE)  the archers were very prepared and had a great grasp of the tournament process, thanks to the great work of club leadership and coaches.

In the afternoon of day one, Team rounds were held. Using the 72 arrow score of all participating archers, they were ranked into one group using a handicapped ranking system that took into account the different distances.  14 teams were formed using the ranking system. Teams had a mix of recurve and compound archers, Bowman, cadets or Cubs Archers and Male or Female Archers. Truly mixed teams! All Archers shot at 30 meter using an 80cm – 10 ring face. The format had a Winners bracket and a Consolation Bracket, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place recognition in both brackets. A special thanks to our Team Round Coordinators, Sheri Rhodes and Bob Pian. Their expertise enabled things to run smoothly. The Day ended at 4:30 pm.

Day Two started the same as day one, with official practice at 8:30 am and scoring beginning at 9:20 am. By 1:30 pm the temperature had reached 105 degrees. Only the final 72 arrow round was shot on Sunday, there were no team rounds. In spite of the heat, there were potentially two state records set. These are being verified. The tournament ended at 2:30 pm with awards presented to 36 athletes.

The tournament would like to thank Arizona Archery Enterprises (AAE) for their tournament sponsorship. And providing all the wonderful AAE product that was given away during the tournament.

Thank you to the City of Chandler for providing such a great Archery venue.

Thank you to all of the Paseo Vista Club members for the great tournament support.

Finally to all the Coaches, Parents and Archers for their continued support of Archery in Arizona.

See every next year!
